                               History of the commune of La Pintana.

The origin of the commune: At first these lands were inhabited by picunche families. At the time of the Colony, they were transferred to the governor of Chile and Viceroy of Peru, Don Ambrosio O'Higgins, as a reward for their loyalty to the Spanish crown.
The origin of her namederives from two popular  versions: one is that, she was a young woman from the Pinto family, named Ana ,to whom her friends said PintAna,the other version is that the family had a white cow whith black spots that stood out from the others.

In 1984 the commune of La Pintana began its functions.
The commune La Pintana is an extensive commune, which has suffered an intense population growth, especially between 1982 and 1992. The population has characteristics of young population. One of the main problems of the commune is poverty, which is expressed in inadequate conditions of infrastructure and equipment, as well as in some health indicators, such as a child malnutrition rate higher than the national average. Drug addiction, alcoholism and teenage pregnancy are perceived by the population as the biggest health problems.
